The new search engine based in India, Yauba, is the worlds first search engine to completely respect the users privacy by keeping no records of searches. This plus other features that google lacks is very speedily making it a close competitor to google, and within months will be a big hype. I'd like to see this search added in the default dropdown box of searches, and eventually, probably the default search itself.

Reproducible: Always
The sites in the default search provide different resources and are commonly accessed sites. Any additions need to be from websites that are often visited on their own merits. In other words a fledgling site would need to prove that it produces accurate results where the standards are Google and Yahoo and that it has the infrastructure to have 10s of millions of users using their search.

A good place to start would be to create a open search addon for Firefox. It can be hosted at http://addons.mozilla.org.

It's more a question to the l10n team... but wontfix seems to be right.
Hi Paul, thanks for your suggestion. As Kevin explained in comment 2, one of the most important factors to take into account when considering adding a new search engine to the default list of search engines in Firefox is its popularity and awareness among users. We also have a set of guidelines that we follow when taking these decisions. You can consult them at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox_web_services_guidelines.

As you say yourself, Yauba has only recently started to gain more awareness among Internet users, but is still well behind two search engines that we currently ship with: Google and Yahoo!. Consequently, I don't feel we should include Yauba at this point.

I like the concept of disambiguating search terms. Tried that for "Firefox", but it only worked to some extent. Seems to me that there's still stuff to code or otherwise put together before this is ready for prime time. And the engine should clearly be out of alpha/beta.

Paul, if you happen to have contacts at yauba, mind poking the techies over there to look into creating an opensearch plugin? It should be exposed on the search page, too, the first MDC article that Kevin posted in comment 1 tells you how to do that.

The privacy claims btw may be right on paper, but I'm somewhat skeptical about the real life implications of doing that together with google adds on the page.

Yauba are openly accepting suggestions so I suggested to them the creation of this plugin as well as forwarding a link to this ticket.
