File -> Send Link invokes Thunderbird (Shredder), but it does not open a compose window.  All I get is the Thunderbird window as if I had started the Thunderbird program from the icon.  Here is the version of Thunderbird I'm using;

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1b4pre) Gecko/20090317 Shredder/3.0b3pre

Yes, I have already navigated to Tools -> Options -> Applications and set the "Mailto action" to Shredder by browsing to the shredder.exe file.

Jim, I am seeing this off and on with  Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3) Gecko/20090305 Firefox/3.1b3

have you checked older daily builds to determine when this started?

using http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Changing+the+e-mail+program+used+by+Firefox I changed the FF application setting from Thunderbird to "Thunderbird (default)" and it's OK now.

I think this started happening after I flopped from 3.x to 2.x and back to 3.x. Normally thunderbird options>advanced>general>set default  fixes it. But not always anymore.

This started working again after using a more recent version of Shredder (late March).  I've closed this issue for the time being.
