The problem was there in version 3.0, and still persists in 3.1 beta. In text boxes, text areas(of one line), search boxes, location bar, search bar, whenever some indic text is typed it appears cut down from below. 

In other words, about one-fourth the height of the letter from below is not visible. The problem is mitigated with small zoom level, and vice-versa. 
The lower side of text can be seen if you select the text from the right, and run down the cursor to lower-left.

Indic text means text of Indian languages. I have not checked all the indic scripts but Hindi and Gurumukhi.

Even when western text is typed alongside the western characters also 

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Go to any search box, text box or one-line text area, e.g., the one at google, or just the location bar.
2.Copy and paste the text in inverted commas: "निर्मल वर्मा Nirmal Verma" 
3.The characters would be not fully seen; if you do not find any problem seeing the text yet, increase the zoom level.

Actual Results:  
The text pasted in step 2 above would seem cut down from lower side.

Expected Results:  
The text should be seen side by side the Indic text.

The problem is not there in Internet Explorer 6 and Opera 9.64.

dupe means 1.An easily deceived person. or 2.A person who functions as the tool of another person or power. 

Simon Montagu, can you precisely tell what do you mean?

Here in bugzilla we use dupe as an abbreviation of "duplicate". I think that this has already been reported, but I didn't succeed in finding an earlier report.
