User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009021910 Firefox/3.0.7 GTB5 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) Build Identifier: https://addons.mozilla.org I want to localize AMO in Serbian language. My AMO username is M1l0sh Reproducible: Always Actual Results: Finished complete localization.
As per IRC, Milos is primarily interested in doing it in Latin script, aka, sr-Latn. Our Firefox localization is in Cyrillic script, aka sr-Cyrl. We should figure out how to proceed on this. Filip?
I would discourage localization only in Latin, for the following reasons. 1) The Cyrillic script is the official script in Serbia. Localization in Latin is therefore not respecting the customs of the people for whom it is made. 2) Starting from a Cyrillic l10n, the Latin l10n can be obtained automatically. I do this often for the programs I translate: I make a Cyrillic translation, then run it through an auto-converter to obtain the Latin translation, thus getting two translations for the price of one. It's not just me; the prominent l10n groups for Serbian (KDE, Gnome, OpenOffice) have all adopted this workflow. I don't do this for the Firefox and Thunderbird translations as currently Mozilla does not accept two scripts for the same language,. Going the other way around (Latin→Cyrillic)is wasteful as it involves significant manual work. My experience is that people who start off doing Latin usually stay only on Latin, as they already have something and do not want to redo the translation work. This, as a result, worsens the user experience, given what's stated at 1). 3) Both Microsoft and Google offer their online services for mail and others in Cyrillic. Hotmail and Gmail only have Cyrillic translations. It is conceivable that these companies have conducted extensive market research to find out which script is most adequate for the Serbian market; their conclusions can be readily confirmed online, and is something we should reuse. While I understand that Milos may have a personal preference towards the Latin script, I don't think that personal preferences should be a deciding factor in this matter. To conclude, my advice is that we should ask Milos to produce a Cyrillic translation; and then make an automated conversion into Latin. AMO should then host both translations. I can not support a translation only in Latin.
It`s ok then. I`ll translate it in Serbian Cyrillic...
Hi Milos, thanks for your interest. It looks like you already have read it but instructions for AMO L10n are at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Update:Localizers . Filip, I'll need your a+ in this bug before I can add the locale to AMO. AMO is prepared to host one or both of sr and sr-Latn.

FYI, Milos now has LDAP/SVN access to our various web parts and already started working on mozilla.com. The idea is to have both Filip and Milos share the workload and Milos is happy having Filip reviewing his work and working on consistency of language across the sites and with the products that filip is in charge of. That looks like a web localization team getting started to me :)

Woo!
I`ve translated about a half, and am still working on it. You could expect first version for testing within a week or two. Too much task this week, so I couldn`t finish it.
sr and sr-Latn directories added in r50597. I pointed both of them to sr_CS.utf8 internally, which I think should work. r50598 is adding them to the site. They won't show up in dropdowns until you're happy with them but they will show up if you go directly to the URLs: https://preview.addons.mozilla.org/sr/firefox/ https://preview.addons.mozilla.org/sr-Latn/firefox/
Mass-close of L10n bugs. We're using the newsgroups to notify localizers about updates so there isn't much of a reason to leave these open. If you have a specific case, feel free to reopen. Thanks for all your help! :)

I'm reopening this bug, as I think it would be better use of it if used as a tracking bug for translation. If you think I'm wrong, please resolve it again.
