48512 - Subscribe newsgroup fails to retain after exit/relaunch

Description

Mac (2000-08-10-08 M18)
1. Launch Messenger
2. Use Edit->Mail News Account Setting, New Account to create a newsgroup 
(news.mozilla.org) account
3. From the File->Subscribe menu, subscribe Netscape Test
4. Back to Messenger and read news
5. Exit Messenger and relaunch Messenger
6. Select news.mozilla.org again
Actual result: Newsgroup netscape.test is gone. I have to subscribe
netscape.test again using step 3.
Expected result: netscape.test should retain after exit/relaunch Messenger. I
should not have to subscribe it again.

Will test Linux and Win32

I didn't see this problem on WinNT. Adding pp keywords. I will try to reproduce 
on Mac platform.

I do not see any problem on Win_nt 4.0
Linux (2000-08-10-08 M18)
On Linux, I tried two times, this bug occurs once.
On Mac, I re-tested it 3 times. it occurs 2 out of 3 times. Very inconsistent!

I cannot reproduce this problem on Mac 9.0.4 & Linux either.
But I only run three times for each platform, probably like Fenella said this is 
"very inconsistent" bug, I will keep trying again...

Karen, on Mac, the first 2 times, I saw this bug, the third time I did not see 
it. I will try it again in today's build too.

Fenella, are you saying that the netscape.test is disappear from the folder pane   
after you subscribed and relaunch again? I still cannot reproduce this problem 
on my Mac 9.0.4, I have tried 5 times on the NEW news profile and still cannot 
reproduce this problem...probably this is only occurring on Mac 8.6, i will try 
on Linux again.

By using the same build as this bug report, 
I cannot reproduce for 5 times retesting on my Linux 6.0.
I think that I will leave this to developer to reproduce it.

I re-test this using today's Mac build (2000-08-11-09 M18), I can reproduce 2
out of 3 times. Karen saw this happens too.
I have a multiple profile with 4 accounts.

Yes. I saw in front of Fenella's Mac 8.6 machine.
I think probably need to investigate more for this problem.....

Problem is occurring on today's WinNT 08-15-08-M18 commercial build for the NEW 
news profile. I am adding nsbeta3, regression for the keywords.
Change the platform to PC/WinNT, will confirm other platfoms later....

Problem is also occurring on Mac 9.0.4 platform on 08-15-04-M18 commercial 
build, assuming this is occurring on all the platforms, changing the platforms 
to all.

fix checked in - save newsrc in subscribe dialog js after subscribing - this
only worked before because newsrc files were only getting saved when the
protocol was deleted - with the protocol connection cache, they don't get
destroyed until shutdown, and if we leak, they won't get destroyed. (But if you
waited 5 minutes, the timer should fire and they should get saved).
