1. type http://www.dt2009.gov in url bar
2. hit <return>

Actual Results:  
firefox freezes

Expected Results:  
page loads

could be an interaction with iclient.exe
http://www.dt2009.gov/ can not be found from my DNS Server.
Is this an internal URL ?

Did you already tried the Firefox safemode ?

do you have Proxy Auto Config configured? (or a proxy, however that's less interesting)

Probably meant https://www.dtv2009.gov/
(US government DTV transition website)

dt2009.gov says "Registered And No Website" in Whois.
dtv2009.gov loads fine for me.

As per comment 3, dtv2009.gov loads fine and dt2009.gov domain does not exists.
