I had been hoping that the update to Firefox 3.5.2 would resolve this problem, but alas, no joy - on my 64-bit Jaunty box, this version (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); sv-SE; rv:1.9.1.2) Gecko/20090729 Firefox/3.5.2 GTB5) still doesn't work with SCIM. Given that the bug has not (yet ?) been assigned to anyone, it would seem that Mozilla developers view this matter with equanimity - a short-sighted view when one takes into consideration that an IME like SCIM is necessary to enter glyphs for, among others, CJK and Indic languages, which are spoken by some 3 x 10⁹ persons around the world, many of whom use computers. A solution to the problem should be within easy reach, as SCIM works quite well with the Ubuntu ppa versions of both Firefox 3.5.3pre (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; sv-SE; rv:1.9.1.3pre) Gecko/20090802 Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) Shiretoko/3.5.3pre GTB5) and Minefield 3.6a1pre (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2a1pre) Gecko/20090801 Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) Minefield/3.6a1pre GTB3). I hope the bug will be crunched in time for a solution to be included in the next Firefox update... Henri
SCIM doesn't work with the version (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.2) Gecko/20090729 Firefox/3.5.2) too.

Hope the FF developers will release FF 3.5.3, which presumably will resolve this annoying problem, soon !... Henri

Firefox:General isn't watched by a developer. A triager like me must move it to the correct component but I can only guess in this case
Component: General → Editor
Product: Firefox → Core
QA Contact: general → editor
Version: unspecified → 1.9.1 Branch

Matti, I appreciate how difficult it can be to find the proper component to which to assign this bug. But given that SCIM is an input method editor, which allows users to input non-ASCII glyphs (for East Asian languages like Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indic languages, etc), I wonder if «Internationalisation» might not be the right category. It is, after all, defined as : «Internationalization is the process of designing and developing a software product to function in multiple locales. This process involves identifying the locales that must be supported, designing features which support those locales, and writing the code needed.» Worth a try, at any rate !... Henri

As is the case for a similar bug, no 486815, it would seem that the problems reported above were resolved long ago. For example, I can report that SCIM works as it should on the latest FF 3.6 build - Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; sv-SE; rv:1.9.2.15pre) Gecko/20110130 Ubuntu/10.10 (maverick) Namoroka/3.6.15pre GTB7.1. I suggest that this bug be retired.... Henri

I bet this is a bug of SCIM. See bug 643326 and https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=680430 Can you still reproduce this bug on latest Firefox and current supported Ubuntu?

According to the Novell's bugzilla, the bug of SCIM has already been fixed by themselves. Additionally, SCIM isn't de facto standard in these days. I believe that nobody meets this bug in modern environment. Therefore, I'm marking this bug as INVALID. Please reopen if there are something which should fix by our side.
