User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1b4) Gecko/20090423 Firefox/3.5b4
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1b4) Gecko/20090423 Firefox/3.5b4
After typing name/password into fields and clicking "Sign In", I am returned directly to the login page with no errors. The login is successful in Opera. I had the same problem in 3.0.*, so it's not just a 3.5 issue.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to the Gmail login page.
2. Enter uname/password.
3.Click "Sign In"
Actual Results:
I was returned to the login page with no errors.
Expected Results:
I expected to be logged into my Gmail account.
I tried all the supposed fixes on the Gmail "I cannot access my account" page. No changes whatsoever.

I saw the same behavior using Firefox 3.0.10 on MacOs, but the problem was on the Postini login page. I was able to make the problem go away by closing down Firefox without saving all my open tabs. When I did the upgrade from 3.0.9 to 3.0.10, I did the "Save & Quit" option to preserve the 7 or 8 tabs I had open.
Not sure what this proves, but there must have been some state associated with the saving and restoring of the open tabs across the upgrade that caused the malfunction.

Can you try a new profile ?
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+Profiles
OK, I tried it in a new profile and was able to login to Gmail. I then deleted the new profile and tried again and the problem returned.
So, obviously something about making a new profile fixes it.

Please delete the cookies and the disk cache under tools/clear recent history.
The new dialog is very confusing for me, I think you want the "entire history" and cookies and the "web cache" only enabled.
