In version 1.9 of searchTermOverlay.js in 2000, the functionality of the searchTerm XBL binding was moved from mailWidgets.xml to that function. AFAICT, it has been unused since then.
This bug removes that unused binding. I discovered this as part of my work on bug 198100.
