User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; de; rv:1.9.1b4) Gecko/20090423 Firefox/3.5b4 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; de; rv:1.9.1b4) Gecko/20090423 Firefox/3.5b4 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) When copying the "Lesezeichen-Menü" (Bookmarks Menu? I am using the German client) as a whole e.g. to the "Lesezeichen-Symbolleiste" (Bookmarks Bar) Firefox stops responding and after approx. 30 secondes pops up an warning message about an unresponsive script. The full German text of the message: "Ein Skript auf dieser Seite ist eventuell beschäftigt oder es antwortet nicht mehr. Sie können das Skript jetzt stoppen oder fortsetzen, um zu sehen, ob das Skript fertig wird. Skript: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox%203.5%20Beta%204/components/nsPlacesDBFlush.js:192" Stopping the script or keeping it running by selecting the corresponding button both have the same result, Firefox still is unresponsive for a couple of more seconds. In one case Firefox crashed completely, in all other attempts the bookmarks finally got copied. My bookmarks menu contains 16 subfolders (plus the 3 original auto-folders for most visited bookmarks etc.), each folder containing between about 5 to max. 20 bookmarks. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open the "Bibliothek" (bookmarks library). 2. Mark the "Lesezeichen-Menü" (Bookmarks Menu) and drag it to the "Lesezeichen-Symbolleiste" (Bookmarks Bar) folder. Actual Results: Firefox unresponsive, followed by script error in file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox%203.5%20Beta%204/components/nsPlacesDBFlush.js:192 Expected Results: Firefox should continue responding while copying the bookmarks in the background without scripting errors I am running the following addons and themes: 4chan menu 0.4.5.12 Adblock Plus 1.0.2 BetterPrivacy 1.29 Cooliris 1.10 Download Statusbar 0.9.6.5 feedly 1.2b Ghostery 1.3.9 NoScript 1.9.2.6 PDF Download 2.1.0.2 Stay-Open Menu 1.5 There is also an instance of Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant 1.0 listed as inactive because no longer supported by this version of Firefox. On a sidenote, I expected the "Lesezeichen-Menü" copying to result in some kind of a symbolic link appearing in the "Lesezeichen-Symbolleiste" referencing back to the menu rather than actually copying all single bookmark entries. That's why I did this in the first place.

Confirmed on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2a1pre) Gecko/20090504. This does not happen in Firefox 3. When I put a check mark in the box "Don't ask me again" it completes the task normally AFAICS.

Correction: When I put a check mark in the box "Don't ask me again" and click on "Continue" it completes the task normally. I forgot some words.

P. Geisler, can you reproduce this with recent trunk build? (there was recently a places landing)

No answer, Firefox 4 should have made this largely faster, but we won't backport the fix (it's just too large and scary). Please reopen only if you can reproduce in Firefox 4.
