User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042315 Firefox/3.0.10
Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.21 (20090302)

OSX 10.4.11, usually using Firefox 3.0.10 to access webmail.aol.com directly.

HOWEVER, if I attempt to use Thunderbird (or Mac-Mail) as IMAP client, I believe T'bird creates it's own "Trash" folders -- confusing AOL's Mail Server (and T'bird). The two "Trash" folders appear identically named in AOL's folder list (though, may have complex internal file-names). Deleting the wrong folder, creates errors for either AOL or T'bird (or MacMail).

I've attempted to clarify specific details, but get confused as to who is creating what -- and revert to direct Internet access to http://webmail.aol.com . I'd rather use T'bird (or MacMail) as IMAP client; HOWEVER, I can't have T'bird and AOL fighting folder-turf-battles; it eventually becomes a problem.

Note: If un-noticed, this MAY underlie or explain some other (similar, but unrelated) bug reports???

Thanks, --jim

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open Thunderbird. T'birdgoestoAOLandget's mail.
2.Delete pieces of mail(Move to Trash)
3.Using Firefox, go toAOL (log-into webmail.aol.com)
4.Lookat AOL's stanfard and personal mailfolderlist.
5.if two "Trash" folders, Delete one or other.
6.AOL or T'bird complains, or gets confused, or recreates 2nd "Trash" folder.
Actual Results:
Two "Trash" folders at webmail.aol.com website

Expected Results:
Original "Trash" folder at webmail.aol.com website

AOL and Mac and T'bird just can't seem to "play well together." -- I understand. However, I can't have them fighting over or breaking each others toys.
Is AOL providing Imap services ? Can you follow the instructions at https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging and provide us with an imap log so we can identify where the problem is ?

This does not happen on AOL only. On imap.strato.de this happens too.
