User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_6; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.27.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.2.1 Safari/525.27.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20090223 Thunderbird/3.0b2 It would be very useful to be able to be able to click a button or a link on an email in one's inbox or other folders and see the reply or forward that was written in response to that message. At present TB shows a small arrow icon to the left of the message title to indicate that the message was either forwarded or replied to, but this is only an indicator, in apple mail app for example this little arrow icon can be clicked to view the reply or forward that was written in response to the original message. MS Entourage does this slightly differently but it is still very useful. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Locate a message that has been replied to or forwarded. 2. Open the message. 3. Find out that the only was to see one's own reply is to root out the message in the sent items folder, long winded and slow. Actual Results: n/a Expected Results: n/a I will attach two screenshots showing how this feature is provided in MS Entourage to help illustrate this request.
Summary: Feature Request: Ability to click to view the user's own reply or forward to a received message. → Ability to click to view the user's own reply or forward to a received message.
I don't know if this is a dup, but I agree that it would be a neat feature. I don't know if gloda can tease out this kind of information. We could store this info in the .msf files, but gloda seems more appropriate. Gloda could probably do a search for the replies using message ids and sender, but forward is a little trickier - storing the message id of the fcc of the forwarded message with the original message seems like the only foolproof way of handling forward.

Finding a reply is covered by bug 66274, which has only a brief comment on forwarding a message. Both issues are certainly related (though the original message ID is not retained as a reference when forwarded). Thus, this could be duped against bug 66274 if that one is extended to cover forward, or this case covered here separately once the reply case is implemented.
I can't find the bug right now but this reminds me a lot of the "find conversations" bug that davida was going to look into. Perhaps the two can be thought of together as I think they overlap a lot in the experience we want to provide.
