Reply: compose window is scrolled to the bottom of the quoted text Win32 2000-08-16-10-m18 build 1. HTML or plain text compose window 2. Select a message 3. Reply to it 4. In the compose window that comes up, your original text is quoted. Notice that the compose window is scrolled so that the bottom of the quoted text is shown. The cursor is at the top (beginning) of the quoted text which is correct. The compose window should open to where the cursor is located.

This happens when the message you reply to causes the scroll bar to appear in the compose window. Forward inline has the same problem.

It's a editor problem. I pretty sure they already have a similary bug about making the insertin point always visible. Reassign to beppe

since reassigning, I'll remove the nsbeta3+ so beth can evaluate this bug. This is a very visible problem in mail compose window with replies or forward inline (which is Netscape 6's default).

would it be sufficient to have the window open always to the top? the caret would default to top of course.
I'm not sure. There will be some users who have their cursor be set to display below quoted text.

setting to nsbeta3- -- there is an easy workaround for this one

Beth, according to the PDT's criteria, this should rate a plus and P2 because it is very high profile functionality. Every single reply, reply-all, and forward will exhibit this problem. Please reconsider.

I will see if Kin can try, but we are pretty close to the wire

So the bug is that the cursor appears in the wrong place? The cursor should appear below the quoted text but above the signature, right?

No, the bug is that the quoted text is scrolled to the bottom, even though the cursor is *above* the quoted text. This assumes you have your reply mode set to reply-on-top. I agree this looks pretty bad.

Accepting bug. This should be pretty easy to fix.

Please make sure that the fix is to have the cursor come into view (ie. no scrolling), not to move the cursor to the bottom of the quoted text since the user has the pref set for replying above quoted text.

I checked in a fix for bug 33938 which also fixes this case.
