I would like to request that we design and implement a system within NSS to
allow 3rd party smart card vendors to contribute their PKCS#11 driver source
code to NSS.

At some point in the future we might decide to ship some number of these drivers
in PSM so that end-users do not need to install any software; they just need to
plug in the hardware.
Moving to version 3.2.
Version: 3.1 → 3.2
Status: NEW → ASSIGNED
Target Milestone: --- → 3.2
Version: 3.2 → 3.0
Target Milestone: 3.2 → 3.3
Target Milestone: 3.3 → 3.4
Set target milestone 4.0.
Target Milestone: 3.4 → 4.0
I'm not sure that this request is really appropriate for NSS. The smartcard
PKCS#11 libraries would have many platform dependencies, including low-level
drivers. We could not get them to work under every OS that NSS supports . It is
better for the libraries to be maintained outside of the NSS source tree. Thus,
I would suggest closing this as WONTFIX.
