After an internal discussion, the Polish team decided that we would like to include Filmweb.pl searchplugin.

Its OpenSearch version is at:
http://gfx.filmweb.pl/gf/opensearch/portal.xml

If needed, I can convert it to MozSearch.
OS: Mac OS X → All
Hardware: x86 → All
Not sure if Stas was part of your internal discussions, but for historic evidence the rationale for this proposal should be documented in this bug.
Marcoos, would you mind commenting on this bug with a rationale to include Filmweb? Do you think we should just add it as the 8th plug-in in Polish version, or should we remove one of the current ones? Given that the guidelines talk about 6 plug-ins in total, but that we have 7 in en-US and are willing to make further exceptions to improve our users' experience, what would be your recommendation?

And yes, the plug-in should be in the MozSearch format. Also, submitting a patch instead of the xml file will be helpful. Thanks.

Just adding my comments a bit late, but I would also like to see the rationale here. I'd prefer not to ship 8 search plugins with our pl version, but am curious to read more about Filmweb. Sounds interesting. Marcoos?
Marcoos, Hubert, can you take a look at my comment 2, please?

It's too late now to add Filmweb in 3.5, but we can still consider this for a minor update (3.5.x).

I am against any non-public "internal discussions" related with changes to the source code (including adding another search engine). The principle 8. of The Mozilla Manifesto (translated in bug 433928 to many languages) has a wording about "transparent community-based processes". Please, follow this principle and point me to this "internal discussion" (I am native Polish speaker) or give an extensive rationale here. Thanks.

I agree with you. We just did not bother to file a bug on bugs.aviary.pl, while it definitely should happen.

We'll document the discussion here or file a new bug on bugs.aviary.pl and document it there today.
The rationale was that FilmWeb is a pretty useful search plugin. It is a community-made site similar to the English-language IMDB.

The discussion took place via some IRC meetings of the Polish team, after FilmWeb asked us if we would be willing to include such a search plugin.

Basically, there was no vote against this plugin and some members of the team were indifferent.

The only issue raised by Staś (in this bug's comment 2) is that we already have a lot of search engines in Firefox pl. If that's really too many, we can resolve this bug as wontfix.

If we cannot add 8th search plugin - I prefer to add FilmWeb and remove FBC (http://fbc.pionier.net.pl/).

IMHO Filmweb will be more useful than FBC but "Mozilla's mission is to promote openness, innovation, and opportunity on the web" - so maybe we should wait until movie trailers (on Filmweb.pl) will be available in open video format?
Summary: Add Filmweb.pl search plugin to Polish Firefox 3.5 → Add Filmweb.pl search plugin to Polish Firefox
Good idea, but I don't think it's their decision. Aren't their getting the trailer files from movie distributors? Should we encourage them to convert the trailer clips into an open video format (ideally, webm)?
Moving this post-4.0.

Something was changed. Today I noticed that they use <video/>. All new trailers are available in OGV and MP4 formats.

Since Theora is an open video format I recommend to add Filmweb.pl search plugin.

I don't see nothing like that now - without 3rd party plugins videos on filmweb.pl are unplayable. Based on that and the age of the bug I'm closing this one. If something will change we can always open new bug (after discussion and successful evaluation).

Now it depends which movie you play...
