I can open an .eml file in Ubuntu Linux using the command:

./thunderbird test.eml

or (after setting some env variables), using:

./thunderbird-bin test.eml

in Ubuntu.

However,

./thunderbird-bin test.eml

doesn't work in Mac Leopard, it merely just quits to the CLI without anything happening.

This works in Mac 10.7.x:

open -a /Applications/Daily.app/ ~/Desktop/a.eml

(replace Daily.app with your favourite Thunderbird version)
