Testing on both latest trunk and branch on OSX and branch on XP

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.2a1pre) Gecko/20090601 Minefield/3.6a1pre

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1pre) Gecko/20090601 Shiretoko/3.5pre

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1pre) Gecko/20090601 Shiretoko/3.5pre

When I right click and "Save Video As" on the provided URL an extra extension is appended to the given file name (*.ogg.ogv) - See http://i39.tinypic.com/2mdrqxw.jpg (OSX)

The confusion arises when the location bar reports the given file name differently - See http://i44.tinypic.com/16geekn.png (OSX)

Windows XP's "Save As Dialog", the file name is reported equally - See http://i43.tinypic.com/iep72x.png (XP)

But within the download manager it's reported differently - See http://i40.tinypic.com/262pog4.png (XP) and http://i41.tinypic.com/2iu8c2g.png (OSX)

The file is downloaded properly and plays properly and is reported in OSX as having the two extension types http://i44.tinypic.com/2nktp5e.png (OSX). The same applies to Windows XP (http://i43.tinypic.com/our3i8.png) (XP)

Actual results: Discrepancies between "Save Video As" dialog / location bar dialog and Download Manager

Expected results: No discrepancy between dialogs as to which is the proper extension to the file

I am not entirely sure if this is AV related and or related to how an *.ogg video is built (2 extensions?), I just find this awkward.

It's more a helper application problem, or? I cannot find it so I'll put it into file handling now.

There is a difference to be noted between the "Save Link As" (right click and save this) http://media.tinyvid.tv/ggrlesxkz65x.ogg

and the Save Video As (by first clicking on the link below and then calling up the Save Video As dialog)

http://media.tinyvid.tv/ggrlesxkz65x.ogg

Save Video As will append the extra extension, Save Link As wont
Summary: "Save Video As" - Appends extra extension to provided file name (variation in reporting) → "Save Video As" - appends extra file type extension to provided file name (variation in reporting)
I'm fairly sure this was discussed in some other bug, but I can't find it. IIRC, the basic problem was that .ogv is the correct extension for type video/ogg, and so having the browser append that is expected and desired (in the general sense). For example, if a server has an image of type image/png with the filename "foo.exe", we should save it as "foo.exe.png". [It's a little odd that Save Link As is doing something different, but I guess it makes sense.]

AFAIK out content handling stuff only has one canonical extension for a file type, I think I've seen the same problem when saving "bar.jpeg" and you get "bar.jpeg.jpg".
Did a little more testing in Linux:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1pre) Gecko/20090601 Shiretoko/3.5pre

Linux handles the file correctly:

Download Manager: http://i40.tinypic.com/28veuer.jpg
"Save Video As": http://i41.tinypic.com/10xsmxy.jpg
We should better point to a website which embeds the video. See my link which shows this behavior on OS X and Linux.
Embedded videos didn't make a difference, but whatever.
