The <link rel="jetpack"> tag doesn't currently support an "href" attribute that is a data: URI.

Bug 494532 is not a duplicate of this bug. Bug 494532 describes a very serious problem (which is related to this bug) that happens to the Jetpack features database.
Oh wait nevermind it is supposedly fixed and I guess the update to 0.5 borked Jetpack. It had all the exact same symptoms of bug 494532 so I assumed that caused it without researching.
We will be monitoring all these issues after the rebooted Jetpack code base is released in the first week of March to ensure their causes are not duplicated. Many of the bugs/issues with the prototype version of Jetpack will be made irrelevant given the structure of the new SDK.
