User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042315 Firefox/3.0.10
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042315 Firefox/3.0.10
This morning I upgraded to OSX 10.5.7 (plus quicktime, itunes, and airport, none of which should be related to firefox basic functionality). Upon the restart of firefox, the Location bar was missing, as were the standard paging keys (back, forward, home, refresh). This was immediately after the upgrade, and I performed no other operations other than starting firefox. Just in case it was related to themes, I changed the theme back to the default. On restart, the bar and the buttons were still missing. I do not see any other problems. I am able to function, more or less, using function keys and Open Location, but this is extremely annoying.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. start firefox
2.
3.
Actual Results:
no location bar, no forward/back page buttons, no refresh button, no stop button, no home button
Expected Results:
these items should have been there, as they always had been before the upgrade of OSX
bug occurs with default theme and with Walnut theme

If you click the oblong button at the top left of the Firefox window, does that bring back the toolbar ?
or View menu > Toolbars > Navigation Toolbar.

No, it does not. However, the toggling does affect the *space* where the navigation toolbar should be. If I toggle it off, the space closes up, placing the bookmarks toolbar immediately below the title and the three colored dots of an OSX window. If I toggle it on, the space opens up again, but it is still completely empty.

I did a screen capture showing firefox with the missing stuff. This was using the walnut theme, but it happens on all themes, including the default.

If you toggle that toolbar ON, can you right click on it ? You should see a context menu with 'customize'. A sheet opens and you can drag the missing items back in place (or: you should be able to add them back in place...).
If that fails, there might be something wrong with your profile. Try safemode:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode
or maybe any of the tips listed here:

Puzzling that an OS upgrade would trigger this kind of thing.
Is you user folder on a network server ?

Okay, I followed the above suggestion about safe mode. I didn't have to actually run in safe mode, though. The "reset toolbars" flag on the startup dialogue, followed by restarting in regular mode, brought my navigation icons back.
Sure don't know how this happened in the first place though.
As far as the network server question is concerned, the answer is no. This is a standalone machine.

Sounds like it could be an extension that change prefs or something like that. Also, the screenshots show a custom theme. Marking INVALID

Well, anything's possible, but I already said:
1. it happened on the default theme as well
2. nothing was changed in firefox between the time it worked and the time it didn't
3. the only event that took place between the two states was the upgrade of mac osx.
