i am reading text on some random news site.  i want to zoom into the text so that the font is readable (to someone that doesn't have greater than 20/20 site).

double click won't work in this case because you are already zoomed into the element holding the text. What mechanism can we use to zoom in further? On the n810 we use the +/- keys for arbitary zoom.

We also have bug 478038. Is this a dupe of that bug? I think it might be.

I don't want to have some strange configuration of buttons that do zooming.  we should just make tap-to-zoom behave better.

What URL is this?  When I tested tap-to-zoom with my new patch, it worked well everywhere...

I'm not a huge fan of overriding the volume keys since we intend to have support for video and audio.  I'd like to use the "click wheel" on the HTC devices for the arbitrary zoom.  Since winmo devices have such differences in hardware this might need to be different for every device and we may need some UI to allow users to map it to hardware keys.

Click wheel zooming has landed.
Volume keys are out for n900.

What does this bug want to do? or let's close it.

Either way, I'm not sure this should block

The zoom gesture in MicroB is really nice. I use it a lot on my n900.

There are lots of cases where I want to zoom to any level, not to a specific container, nice as that function is per se.

Double clicking also does not always zoom out in the way I want, it often only pans the page.

It seems we have not found ways to make tap-to-zoom smart enough for the original request in this bug. Arbitrary zooming using keys and/or gestures seems like the way to go.

WONTFIX'ing unless a new plan comes forward.
