Build Identifier: Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 (20090302)
Every time I try to read a letter with "notify sender" flag sat, I see an unresponsible dialog window "Do you wish notify the sender...?". I have to kill Thinderbird via Ctrl-Alt-Del->Task manager.
Some details: I read it in shared folders, I don't know, does it reproduce in Inbox folder.
A last affected mail was written in Microsoft Office Outlook 11.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try to read a letter with notify sender flag sat
2. Observe dialog window "Do you wish notify the sender...?"
3. Note the freeze
Actual Results:
Thunderbird becomes totally unresponsible, I have to kill it.
Expected Results:
It should not freeze.
1. I read it in shared folders
2. Last affected email was written in Microsoft Office Outlook 11
3. UPD!!! I installed russian version of thunderburd and bug gone!

Version 2.0.0.21, no themes, one corporate plugin (does not affect the issue)
Nope, still not fixed. Right after reinstall, there were no freeze. I closed and reopened TB and the issue comes back.

forgot to mention Bug 444588 Certain e-mails hangs thunderbird - return-receipt suspected, but I'm not certain that's the bug I was thinking about, and I don't see a suspect in open bugs https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?short_desc=return%20receipt;bug_severity=critical;bug_severity=major;bug_severity=normal;resolution=---;query_format=advanced;short_desc_type=allwordssubstr;product=MailNews%20Core;product=Thunderbird
Summary: freeze on incoming mail with "notify sender" flag set → freeze on incoming mail marked return receipt with "notify sender" flag set
Version: unspecified → 2.0

Sorry, I switched that option OFF and forgot where it was. Now tryed to switch it on and check it not in a IMAP common folder, but in inbox. No freeze occured in the new version (3.0.5).
But this version was absolutely FREEEEEEEEEZING AND SSSSLLLOOOOOW until I switched inlined search indexing OFF. Now it freezes only every ~10 minutes while tryes to show a popup like "You have an 1200 new emails in your 70 folders". Thank you, I know, that there are many users which writes to support (many-many thouthands) and many colleguas, which talks and works in that folders.

does that problem occur in version 3.1?
and if it does, does the problem go away when you disable pop up using Tools|options|general| uncheck Show alert...

Oh, you are about freezing while checking my shared folders? Yes, there are no changes. While scanning new emails all (thunderbird and the whole PC) are totally frozen for several seconds. I will check the option

Done - seems switching off that notification solves the problem. As a next step it would be nice to notify me about new letter in inbox (AND ONLY IN INBOX)

please test with version 3.1. and if you can reproduce, a stacktrace may be useful.
