498187 - My accumulated bookmarks disappeared when I upgraded to the beta version and I have found no way of recovering them in subsequent approved upgrades.

I was offered a chance to try the new Beta Firefox and did. To my dismay, I found that my collection of Bookmarked files, which had followed me through several previous upgrades, were gone, nor was I able to recover them through any subsequent upgrade to an approved new Firefox such as the one from which I am now operating. I should like very much to be able to recover my list if at all possible.  Do help me if you can.

Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks, from that dialog: Import and Backup -> Restore -> (pick the most recent date)
Repeat with older dates if they aren't in the most recent.

try looking at http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Lost+Bookmarks

You can try opening you profile folder, remove all places.sqlite files you find, and start browser (make a backup of the full profile folder FIRST, BEFORE doing any change!)

not enough informations to debug this, sounds like profile corruption.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body   contains   places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
