User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060215 Firefox/3.0.11 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060215 Firefox/3.0.11 I have tried to use the Bookmark function by various means and none of them have any effect. I usually only have to grab the tab of the page I am viewing and drag it onto a folder icon I have in my tool bar. (or by grabbing the icon from the URL address window and drag it). But that is not working. I tried using the Bookmark pull down menu and choosing "Bookmark This Page" but it does not work either. I tried using the Ctrl+D shortcut and it still does not work. Also, while there are still the bookmarks I have collected over time when I pull down the Bookmark menu... if I go to "Organize Bookmarks", then NO bookmarks appear in the window that pops up. Even though there are hundreds of bookmarks in the pull down menu (categorized into subject folders). Also, the History function show NO history at all. Both of these functions worked well before this last update. Please advise, thank you in advance for speedy repair of this function. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Drag tab to toolbar folder OR 2. Use pulldown Bookmark menu OR 3. Use Ctrl+D Bookmark shortcut Actual Results: NO Bookmarks created by any means... NO Bookmarks show up in ORGANIZE BOOKMARKS window (but are in the pulldown Bookmark menu fine). No HISTORY shows up any more. Expected Results: Nothing Should have created a Bookmark of the currently viewed page.
David, can you please check the Error Console under Tools if any error is reported when you do such an action? Further please start Firefox in Safe Mode (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode) to check if add-on is tricking us here. Thanks. Oh, and where is your profile located? On the local disk or on a network drive?

Thank you for your response as this situation is very frustrating.... I checked the Error Console, and no Errors, Warnings, or Messages appear when I try to save a Bookmark. My profile is located on my local drive. The only add-ons are McAfee_SiteAdvisor (been part of my browser for years), and then just added yesterday was Java Quick Starter and Adobe DLM (powered by getPlus). Since this problem has existed prior to their install, I think we can safetly eliminate them as the problem as well. HOWEVER.... ...being very frustrated, I thought perhaps to re-install the previous version that I had before the problem occurred. After re-installing... Firefox would not work at all. Application would not even load... simply gave error message (no details) and my computer ask if I wanted to send an error report (to microsoft as it always does on errors of any kind)... it even had a link to 'more information' but I could not even see where the link was going because Firefox would not launch to see it.... GIVEN a totally non-working program now... I used ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS to get rid of the program altogether. Then I re-installed again the previous version that was known to work. The new re-install seems to be working fine including Bookmarks and History. I am concerned that when it eventually goes to upgrade itself whether or not the problem re-occurs, but I won't know that until it happens. Should it happen I will re-file another bug report. For now it works and that is all that matters. Thank you again for your help and speedy response to this situation.
David, it would be great when you have a couple of minutes to give us more insight into this problem which is really frustrating. Could you please do the following: 1. Do you have a virus scanner / firewall installed? If yes please disable it and try Firefox 3.0.11 again. Eventually the places.sqlite file which contains all the bookmarks within your profile blocks the file and Firefox cannot open it. 2. If step 1 isn't successful there are some more steps we can do to identify the cause. Please don't file a new report on it if it will happen again. Everything should take place here.
Well... sadly as expected.... today, the firefox browser once again reached the point where it said it had version 3 ready to update.... so I did and immediately ALL the problems listed above returned.... No listings in SHOW ALL HISTORY window.... No Listings in ORGANIZE BROWSER window.... Inability to save bookmarks by any means.... this version 3 is GARBAGE!!!! I WILL NOT install it again until you verify that it is fixed... this is ridiculous.... I am NOT a happy camper!!!!! I did again what I did before... re-installed the previous version... once again, the previous version over the new version completely causes any attempt to launch Firefox to fail... after which I once again, uninstalled the program completely and re-installed the previous version fresh AGAIN!!! This is getting tiresome... the situation is repeatable and consistent in its results each and every time.... something is seriously wrong with version 3.... please fix it..... thank you in advance for you time and speedy consideration in this matter. In regard to your last response.... I use McAfee and have so for the last 8 years with no conflict between it and Firefox.
Please see: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/page.cgi?id=etiquette.html Notice people is happy to help and try solving your issue, unless you write those useless rants, then you will probably obtain the opposite. having an add-on working for eight years is not a reason for it to work always, so yes mcaffee COULD be a cause of the issue, we can't follow all upgrades of all products that interacts with the browser. I suggest you to completely uninstall Firefox 3, remove its folder from programs folder, download and install current Firefox3.5 RC. Then create a NEW profile, and import your bookmarks from a JSON backup in the old profile.
As Marco said, please be gentle! We try our best to solve those problems but we need cooperation. Thanks! David, before you follow the step in comment 5 please deactivate McAfee and restart Firefox 3.0.11 again. I believe you have installed Firefox 3.0.10 right now again. So please download a full installer of Firefox 3.0.11 and run a custom installation. It will allow you to select another installation folder and you can run both versions in parallel. So when you want to help us you can start Firefox 3.0.11 while for normal usage Firefox 3.0.10 is still available. Finally, I wanna see this issue resolved on 3.0.x. Before we don't know what happens there please do not install Firefox 3.5 RC.
reporter, any updates?
After several attempts.... I finally had a fatal crash and had to reinstall my operating system.... when I got back to reinstalling Firefox... I began with the older version since I knew it worked... sure enough when the version 3 finally came through, it did not work again... I uninstalled and reinstalled... same situation when the version 3 came in again... rather than uninstall the version 3 this time, I installed version 2 on top of it.. it was only then that the program finally ask me about whether I wanted to save previous data and I said no since we had spoke about this as a possibility. I did not wait for version 3 to come on its own speed, instead, I immediately installed version 3 on top of version 2 (which was already on top of version 3), but the difference was that I did not USE version 2 during this time... I simply installed version 3 on top of it right away since I knew the 'personal' settings had been removed as mentioned above... and that seemed to solve the problem..... apparently in using version 2 ... there was some sort of setting that was causing problems... but it was not until I went from 3 back to 2 without uninstalling that I finally got the question regarding the old settings... that question had not come up in all these other past trials.... so now it seems that it is working fine and I thank you for your time, your help and your consistent follow up on my current status.... Thanks again.. .TEACH PEACE!!!

P.S... sorry for the delay in responding... the fatal crash I had put me behind in a lot of things... thanks :D
Well, glad this is working. Sounds like something in your profile was messed up. INVALID, not FIXED, since there is no patch.
