498611 - Firefox updates do not install if firefox crashes because crash reporter automatically opens

If there are pending firefox updates and then firefox crashes, then the next time firefox restarts it will not be able to install the updates. Instead it complains that another instance of firefox is running. The instance it is complaining about is simply the firefox crash reporter. 

Work-around: close the crash reporter and restart firefox. With the crash-reporter closed firefox updates just fine. The work-around is simple, but not intuitive to a user who doesn't know whats going on (i.e. me for the first couple times this happened).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
0. Make sure the crash reporter is turned on
1. Put firefox into a state where it has pending updates to install
2. kill firefox (or get it to crash some way)
3. Both the crash reporter automatically starts up and firefox automatically reloads. The updates do not install.


Expected Results:  
Three possible solutions:
1) When mozilla crashes it should not try to install any updates until the crash reporter finishes doing its thing. 
2) When mozilla crashes it should not try to launch the crash reporter until the installation and update is complete.
3) Turn off the crash reporter when there are pending updates.

Ted, this doesn't sound right. Is something else at play, or this already fixed in 3.5?

If the update tries to update the crash reporter, it will fail because the crash reporter is open. I've seen this before, but I'm not sure if it's ever been filed.

It's been crash all the time on window xp every 10-15second to wait back normal running. 3.6.4

I did follow the step and still not work.

The patch in bug 466778 makes it possible to update when the crash reporter, plugin-container.exe, or any other file is open. Resolving -> duplicate
