If you drag+drop an attachment, e.g., a gif file, into the message body of a composition window, and press send, you crash.

whoops, this turns out to be simply that posting a news message without a body crashes. Dragging the gif into the compose window is a no-op (i.e., it leaves the message empty).
Summary: drag a gif file from file mgr to compose window, crash on send. → posting empty news messages crash on send.
yikes, it was worse than I thought. We were never setting the msg window member of nntp urls, so we never put up error messages from the news server. That was part 1. Part 2 (the crash) was that nsMsgSend assumed that all posting urls were smtp urls, which isn't true in the case of news.
