User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090615 Firefox/3.5 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Build Identifier: 3.0b3pre - 06/18/09 build
After installation of nightly build, messages do not show in "junk" folder. "junk" file exists. Tried compacting, deleting msf file, restoring older file copy without effect. When clicking on folder "start" pane displays rather than message list. Shows incorrect number of messages in lower right corner.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open Thunderbird
2.Click on Junk
3. Start pane appears - no messages visible.
Actual Results:
Only start pane displays. No messages diplay even though folder indicates messages exist.
Had same problem with other folders in the AM. Thunderbird updated several times during the day. Last folder with this problem is "junk". Need to view to check for improperly tagged messages..

If .msf is deleted, bug 498819 occurs.
During test of "outdated .msf condition", same phenomenon(Account Central for any folder) was observed with different failure code.
Was exception reported to Error Console?
Only error messages in console are:
Error: GetLoadedMsgFolder is not defined
Source File: chrome://messenger/content/mailContextMenus.js
Line: 173
Error: GetFirstSelectedMessage is not defined
Source File: chrome://lightning/content/messenger-overlay-toolbar.js

Can you reproduce problem with -safe-mode and/or newly created profile?

Can you find bug which reports same failure in Dependency Tree for meta Bug 497199?
Problem solved. It appears that the "junk" file had simply been corrupted. This may or may not have been related to the nightly build installation.
I noticed today that the "junk" folder seemed to be stuck at "138" messages listed in parenthesis after the folder name in spite of the fact that messages appeared to be continually added by the junk filter. Having had no luck with other solutions, I opened the "junk" file with a text editor, selected and deleted the contents, reopened Thunderbird and the problem has gone away.
The folder now appears to be functioning properly with messages being added and able to be viewed by clicking on the folder.

I'm posting to reopen. After deleting contents of junk file yesterday, Thunderbird appeared to function properly for a time. As of this morning, problem has reappeared. Folder shows 108 messages in junk, but can't view folder contents within Thunderbird and message count stays at 108 even though additional messages are continually being added to folder.
Should I be looking for something specific in the junk file that is causing Thunderbird to have problems reading it?

Try disabling gloda from options. Delete junk.msf file, compact junk and delete localstore.rdf: this can help you?
Since last posting, I have not had a recurrence of the problem. It appears to have been related to a corrupted message in the junk folder. There may be a tie in to the global indexer, but I can't confirm unless and until the problem reappears. We now have a new email services which is far more effective at removing the SPAM messages so I doubt that I'll see the problem reappear. If it does, I can reopen the post, but for now the problem appears to be resolved.
