is this "shouldn't display duplicate bugs" or "the backend shouldn't associate duplicate bugs"?

I don't think Sam or I care how it's fixed, as long as duplicate bugs don't show up in the UI.

I think it makes sense to remove the backend association since the data itself is not useful. Showing dupes leads them down a rabbit hole to find the actual bug, so it's safe to remove the association altogether. Sorry I didn't catch this earlier.

I changed my mind (can I do that still?). There are some cases when a duplicate may show without an actual bug showing in our lists. The one I ran across today[1] is duped to a closed security bug which Socorro (rightfully) doesn't report on. In these cases, having the duplicates in the list helps to let us know that a bug is on file, even if Socorro isn't seeing it for some reason.
