User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1b4) Gecko/20090427 Fedora/3.5-0.20.beta4.fc11 Firefox/3.5b4 Build Identifier: Thunderbird/3.0b2 ThunderBrowse/3.2.6.1 Fedora 11 When I attempt to install the enigmail add-on: "enigmail-0.95.7-linux-x86_64.xpi", I get the error message: cannot install; does not provide secure updates. Am running Fedora 11 on x86_64 machine. The add-on worked fine in Thunderbird 2.0 under Fedora 10. Fedora 11 comes with Thunderbird 3.0b2. I need to be able to use enigmail again. Is there a way to get around this problem? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Tools, Manage Add-Ons 2.Install 3.Browse to enigmail-0.95.7-linux-x86_64.xpi 4.click install Actual Results: Window pops up with heading: Incompatible Extension Message: "Enigmail will not be installed because it does not provide secure updates." Expected Results: Thunderbird has an OpenPGP tab with proper configuration (since I had configured it in an earlier version) I also tried installing enigmail using the Fedora 11 package manager. After running it, it indicates that the authentication and encryption extension for Mozilla Thunderbird has been installed. The full name of the installed package is: thunderbird-enigmail-0.96a-0.3.cvs20090521.fc11 (x86_64) You will note that it is not the same as the one I tried to do by hand, but it doesn't seem to matter.
It is the extension author's responsibility to keep extensions up-to-date and compatible with new versions of Thunderbird. Please take the issue up with the author of Enigmail: <http://enigmail.mozdev.org/home/index.php>.

From your error message, there is no indication what would be wrong with the Enigmail package provided by Fedora. In general, the Enigmail team can't support packages & installations provided by Linux distributions -- please contact the Fedora people. Enigmail v0.95.7 is not compatible with Thunderbird 3.0.x, and the message you got is perfectly fine. I think the best solution would be to install the official release of Thunderbird 2.0.x from mozilla.org plus the official Enigmail v0.95.7.
Fedora 11 did provide a version of enigmail that works. Unfortunately, when the package manager was used to install it, the dependency on OpenCA was not present. The resulting error message was not displayed on screen; it should have said "Thunderbird cannot install enigmail because it cannot provide secure updates." In order to provide secure updates, OpenCA needed to be installed also. Once I installed OpenCA, everything was fine. My previously configured OpenPGP tab appeared, and enigmail showed in the Addons as it should have. So, the key thing to remember: in Fedora 11, install OpenCA if it is not already installed; then install enigmail, or install them both together.
