501743 - Saved Passwords are lost from 3.1 to 3.5

I created a bug report previously marked it as WONTFIX. After investigating more the problem still exists.

If you upgrade to 3.5 from last release the saved passwords from last released version are not shown anymore in 3.5. There are list of passwords saved, but they are from a version previous to last release (i forget the exact version) So upgrading from previous release to 3.5 you will end up losing all saved passwords. 

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Before upgrading to 3.5 make sure you are using the last patched release check you have a password for a site
2. Upgrade to 3.5 and visit the same site or view saved passwords they will disappear.

Someone suggested i look at the sql lite, but that was for bookmarks not passwords.

passwords are also now saved in an sql database file.  What was the bug # to the other report?

As for this issue, how do i update the sql.lite to show me passwords saved with the previous patched version?

Upgrading from 3.1 is losing passwords or 3.0?

3.1 was never an official release, so if you're coming from a previous beta, that should be clarified.

Are you losing some passwords or all passwords? Please be more specific to better help diagnose the problem.

It wasn't a beta it was the last official release and I updated FF to the last patch that was sent out, Then updated to 3.5. So what happened is, the passwords that I had between previous release and 3.5 have disappeared, whereas passwords that were there 2 versions ago still exist. Hope it's clear?

I just came on here to report the same bug, accept for one slight difference - it is showing or using very old passwords, passwords I believe from the switch over from version 2 to version 3. Perhaps I have better explain this more carefully, I am seeing in version 3.5.1 passwords from the last version 2 of firefox, and no passwords created while browsing in version 3.0.x. Perhaps someone can confirm this, but it seems to be the case to me. Not so much that passwords are not been displayed, but it seems to have reverted back to old passwords (old password system) prior to version 3 of firefox.

I am using my old firefox again right now (to recover my latest passwords) - using firefox 3.0.12, but the latest version (the official version 3.5.1) has this reverting password problem to the old passwords of version 2.x.x firefox (so no passwords changed or added in version 3.0.x are been used in 3.5.1). or this seems to be the case for myself. I hope this makes sense :-)

Same as above for Firefox 3.6 Beta 5.  Only 2 older passwords get ported over, but seems like none from my previous version (NOTE my previous version is 3.1-something, as I never got 3.5 to work due to severe system crashing. 3.6 seems to work fine so far). 

Anyone fixes available? (profile files, signons3.txt, key3.db etc look ok ... )

My comment #5 still stands - there was no 3.1 release (only betas which became 3.5) so you're probably talking about Firefox 3.0.

You can try the steps at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox:Password_Manager_Debugging to get some output that could prove helpful. Post here again if there's any output that looks suspicious.

You should rename signons.sqlite to something different to force the re-import when starting 3.6.
