Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090624 Firefox/3.0.6, Ant.com Toolbar 1.3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090624 Firefox/3.0.6, Ant.com Toolbar 1.3

The Main browser window gets stuck in a resize and can cause unusual behaviour.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. To get this to work your mouse has to be over the sizebox in the bottom
right and 'not' the frame edges or frame corners.

2. When you resize the main browser window via the sizebox and then right
click, this stops the resizing of the browser window.
Its best if you are resizing the window quickly ! It appears that some
internal state still thinks its being resized.

3. If you move the mouse back over the sizebox (without any mouse buttons
pressed) the window still resizes.

Actual Results:
N/A

Expected Results:
N/A

This was tried on Windows XP as well as Vista.
Note this is against Firefox 3.5 and not Firefox/3.0.6 that came up automatically for the 'Build Identifer'
Seems this has come back again as I raised this back in 2005.

Must be an odd way I work to keep stumbling on it ;-)
I have also just raised ...
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501980
...which might involve a similiar fix?
Are you talking about the resize grippy still showing?

If not,
1. Try to reproduce in Safe Mode. http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode
2. Disable all add-on and see what the minimal set of add-ons installed will
cause this problem to reproduce
3. Try to reproduce in a new profile.
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles
No, the sizebox/grippy (bottom right of firefox) is always shown. What I mean is when you move the mouse over the grippy the window resizes even though you have not got it grabbed (no mouse buttons pressed).

Still happens with a new profile and addins disabled.
I'm guessing the previously mentioned bug patch been removed/changed?
I can not reproduce this using 3.5 or a trunk build.
I've tried it on x3 different machines and the all exhibit the same thing.
Once you do it; its pretty simple to recreate.

So to clarify...
Press the left mouse button on the gripper *not* the window frame.
Resize the window quickly then as its moving press the right hand mouse button (the left is still held down).
You'll leave the window edge behind - so to speak.
Release all mouse buttons and move it over the gripper. The window will resize. Just tried it again on this machine here and recreated it no problem. Maybe your resizing it too slowly? It's probably what comment 10 talks about in the old bug.
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=311709#c10
Also one thing I've just noticed is that if you resize the window normally the status panel along the bottom of Firefox usually containing...

the word 'Done', a padlock glyph and the gripper

only shrinks horizontally to a certain size before it does not shrink any more and therefore the gripper will disappear off the right hand edge of the window; followed by the padlock glyph etc.

Obviously if the gripper is not being displayed then you won't be able to move the mouse over it as it won't be there !!! Maybe you've resized the window too small and the gripper is no longer being displayed? Just a thought.
Confirmed this finally. I think my problem is that I'm using a laptop and it is very hard to reproduce using it.

Yes; its a bit of a funny one this. Though when testing for this bug on other machines I've consciously been trying to recreate it; in usual usage I find myself doing it without even thinking about it. Took me a while to figure out what was happening when I raised the original report a few years back. Incidentally the other related bug I raised...

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501980

can be recreated in exactly the same way. Thanks for your perseverance.
