User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090624 Firefox/3.5 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090624 Firefox/3.5 When I get a WAV file attachment via gmail, I get a popup titled "Opening message.wav" You have chosen to open message.wav which is a: WAVE Audio File from: https://mail.google.com What should firefox do with this file? (I choose "QuickTime" under "Open With (Choose..)") and I check "Do this automatically for files like this from now on. Then I click "OK" BUT, THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I GET A WAVE FILE ATTACHMENT VIA GMAIL. This problem was also present in firefox 3.0.X Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Get a WAV file attachment via GMAIL 2. do the steps described above 3. sigh Actual Results: Repeeated "Opening message.wav" dialogs Expected Results: WAVE files opened with QuickTime have a nice day!
You see this behaviour because Gmail uses the 'content-disposition: attachment' header for all its attachments. This header causes Firefox to always prompt for what to do. There are a dozen bugs filed on this, but bug 453455 might be most relevant.
