When choosing Help->About Seamonkey, the user is currently presented with a huge almost-full-screen size window with little information and poor design. I think the about dialog would look much better if it were implemented in the same fasion as in Firefox and Thunderbird.

We deliberately got rid of the dialog because it looked even uglier. Currently Help->About SeaMonkey opens in a new tabbed browser, the same way as in SeaMonkey 1.1. What would help however is to improve the design of the current about: page.

Well, the dialog doesn't look ugly for me (at least in Firefox and Thunderbird), and I don't think there's enough info in it to mandate a full tab. However, even redesigning the about: page would be something.

No, this is a completely different bug.

(In reply to comment #4) > > Is this a Dupe of Bug 88686 (which is filed for Mozilla sometime ago)? > No, this is a completely different bug. Actually, I don't think it's *completely* different. Some points in its initial comment are basically the same as in comment #0 here. I think it could be duped against this one since Mozilla Suite no longer exists.

Well as far as I can tell, that bug is about moving to a dialog which toolkit apps now use and which we initially inherited when we moved to toolkit. We deliberately moved back to a in-tab implementation of about:. Since we are not going to move back again to a dialog any time this century I think that that is a different bug.

So that bug should be closed.

This is an example of a moch up that could be used to make the About page both cleaner and more modern.

Thanks for the suggestions, there are surely good ideas in there, but I don't think it can be done easily in exactly that way. Some of the ideas suggested even match my ideas right now, though! :)

Robert: the HTML and CSS for that seems pretty easy actually. Making buttons open links in an iframe is pretty easy too.

Except the autoscroll part. But automatic scrolling of a huge amount of people doesn't really work well anyway.

Well, as I said, I don't think we can or will follow this exactly. There are some good ideas in it, though.

You could just use the new one from Firefox 4, and then change the info to something like this "SeamMnkey is an all-in-one internet suite carrying on the spirit and traditions of the origins of the Mozilla Project. The most important of these traditions, is letting you be a part of them through the power of the open source model. We bring it all together, so you can bring the internet together. Get involved with the SeaMonkey project"
