In bug 404611 comments 5 and 7 it seems that taobao had problems with Firefox, I take it those are addressed?

How does adding taobao relate to paipai?

We usually don't add searchplugins in minor updates, is this good enough to take for 3.6?

And, lastly, using an external redirect service is something that we have had very bad experiences with. In particular in terms of who's in charge of the privacy policy that affects our users.

I support put Taobao back, and replace paipai. Reasons are : - 

1. Taobao is the NO. 1 e-commerce site in China, dominated more than 85% of China c2c market. 

2. Taobao had been in Firefox earlier versions till 3.0. Since they announced not support non-IE browser in 2007, we replaced it with paipai in Firefox 3.0 as a "fight back". This works :-). Taobao worked out Firefox solution in 2008, and announced this support publicly.

@Jack , do we have a chance to get rid of this redirect service http://adtaobao.allyes.cn/main/adfclick?db=adtaobao&amp... ?

Recently I tried to search with this search plugin and I found that it's almost the same fast as the direct search.
Since the Firefox 3.6 beta 1 is coming, may I commit this change into 1.9.2 branch?

The redirect isn't a speed concern, but a policy concern.

Having user data and behaviour going through 3rd party redirects exposes privacy concerns, in particular in a case like this where there could even be diverging privacy policies.

Search in taobao changed since this patch, so r- is solid here.

Now, given some time has passed, I'd like to make sure first that you guys still think it's good idea to replace paipai with taobao. If so, then please contact taobao owners asking for permission to add this plugin for Firefox localized in Chinese, and make sure you note that there's going to be an increase in the website search bandwidth upon releasing Firefox in Chinese with this search plugin(which means Aurora, Beta and Release channels).

Once you get the approval, please forward the email(possibly in English) to [e-mail]

Upon getting email from you, I'll comment in this bug on what are our next stepz.

If you're not interested in implementing this change still, though, you can just close this bug.
