User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060215 Firefox/3.0.11 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060215 Firefox/3.0.11 Hello, I'm downloading files into a directory named "downloads". This directory is shared on my home network (users=everyone, full control). when I go over to another computer to try to access these files I get an "access denied" file may be in use or "cannot access read only file" (they are not set as read only). I can access the file on the computer I downloaded it onto but not on any network computer. If I delete the files downloaded with Firefox and download with IE7 I don't have the problem. If I move the files to a different shared directory I can access them from the other network computers. Firefox is not running when i get "access denied". Using Xp home w/ SP3 on a Lenovo Netbook computer. Thanks Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Download files onto a shared folder on the computer. (I was using .CSV and .MP3 files. 2.Go to another computer on the network where you could normally access files downloaded above. 3.Try to open a file (I used Excel for the .CSV file and Win Media player for the .MP3 files). Actual Results: Files will not open on any other network computer. Expected Results: Excel should open the .CSV files and Win Media player should open the .MP3 files.
what are the file permissions for this file ? (ntfs user permmsions/acl)
File permissions are carried down from the directory permissions which are "everyone, full control". File attributes show that it's not a "Read Only" or "System" file. Firefox updated the version to V3.0.12 from V3.0.11 this morning. This didn't solve my problem. I'm tempted to uninstall V3.0 and install V2.0.0.22 and see what happens. I have another networked machine with Firefox 3 installed (It's a Win2K machine) I'll try to download an MP3 file on this machine and see if I can access it from the network. Here is another odd thing. If I move the file from the directory I downloaded it to, to another shared directory then I can read it from another networked machine. Regards
I don't know what it could be if the file permissions are from the directory and just moving it to another directory fixes it. You could try Firefox3.5.1
Hi, Tried dowmloading an MP3 file on my Win2K machine with FF 3.0.11. No problems. Tried what you suggested, FF 3.5.1, problem solved. Thanks for your help. Now I won't have to use that$%##& IE. Al
marking wfm in that case :-)
