User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.12) Gecko/2009070811 Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) Firefox/3.0.12
Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.22 (20090608)

When creating search folders, the user must manually select all the folders that he wants the search to parse. However, there is no option for checking subfolders. This is a hassle for users for two reasons:

1) If there are many folders than the user must waste much time and effort to select them all. Mousemaids are especially inconvenienced as the targets are small and many!

2) The user must remember to update all his search folders every time a folder is added, moved, or renamed. This is a terrible, I add and move folders daily as part of my workflow.

Reproducible: Always
Although this was filed with an Ubuntu build of Thunderbird, I have confirmed that this issue is the same on the windows version of Tbird as well, so in this case the Ubuntu build shouldn't matter.

Note that the "Edit -> Find -> Search Messages" feature provides a "search subfolders" option. However, the saved searches do not.
So this should be fixed when Thunderbird 3.0b4 as gloda https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Using_Gloda will solve the restrictions on search being limited to folders.

Can you revisit that bug when 3.0b4 lands and comment on the fact that it works the way you want it to work ?
gloda won't fix this automatically, afaik. This is really a question of having an option that allows the user to say "include this folder *and* sub-folders" in the saved search definition UI, and then implementing that option. This is also a dup, I'm pretty sure.
bug 378833 sound like a good candidate
