User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.0; WOW64; Trident/4.0; GTB6; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; Media Center PC 5.0; InfoPath.2; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1.1) Gecko/20090715 Firefox/3.5.1 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) I clicked on options after a popup block notice appeared. While the options menu was still up I clicked on a random place on the web page. The popup immediately popped up. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open page above 2.click on popup 'options' 3.click anywhere else on the page Actual Results: popup with link http://cdn.optmd.com/V2/76068/174757/index.html?g=Af////8=&r=www.convertunits.com/distance/city/Osoyoos,+Canada popped up. Of course different popups apear each time you try this. Expected Results: The option menu should have disappeared and no popups should have appeared No changes were made to the default install of 3.5. The really strange thing is that this happens when you follow the corresponding steps in IE8 on vist home premium. I haven't tried it on any other OS or browser. I am going to click the security button since this could be used by a malicious site to launch a drive by attack (although it woujld rely on a user to follow my steps above). Feel free to uncheck if you disagree. Also, I have no idea how to report this bug to Microsoft.
some strange things going on with the test page, but I don't think this is a security problem. I just checked http://www.stopbadware.org/home/reportsearch to see if anyone has reported malware on the page any found no reports. if you see any evidence of malware being served on the page its best to report to http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/report_badware/ --- the first time I visited the page got the popup warning, but now I do not. popup warning show as still enabled for the page. there might be some kind of rotation of content where in one case the don't show popups, in another they show popups that the blocker detects, and in another rotation they provide content that has figured out defeat the popup blockers. it definitely needs more study and opening the bug might help to get more eyes on the popup blocking part of this bug.
