RSS reader is configured to display the page rather than the summary of message. When the page contains a Flash video embedded in a <object> tag, TB cannot display the flash animation, which has already been reported in bug 365998. The corresponding blank space is left; however, it fails to display the alternative content included in <object> </object> <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="video.swf" width="400" height="267"> <param name="movie" value="video.swf" /> <param name="loop" value="true" /> <param name="menu" value="false" /> ALTERNATIVE CONTENT: see <a href="video.swf">video</a> </object> Fine if TB is not able to display Flash animation (after all it's not designed as browser), but it should then display the alternative content. Failure to do so breaks the standard-compliance. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Suscribe to a feed that sometimes contains Flash videos inserted in an <object> tag. 2. Choose to display page in RSS reader, rather than summary. 3. Click on message containing flash object. Actual Results: TB leaves the blank space corresponding to the dimensions of the <object> but does not display the Flash animation. Expected Results: If TB is not able to display the Flash animation, it should display the alternative content encapsulated in the <object> tag.
(In reply to comment #1) > Tried the tb3 beta? > ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-1.9.1/ > http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/early_releases/ If you are able to can you try beta 2 and beta 3? There is a known issue in beta 3 (bug 505437) with the object element. If you're not willing to try, could you post the RSS feed you are seeing these problems on so that we have something to test against?
Unfortunately I am unable to try the betas version. However, I can supply some material to test against. Please not that the problem does not occur when viewing a feed, but choosing the option: "Display page" instead of displaying (by default) the summary of the message. So the problem occurs when TB is acting as a browser. Try to view this page in TB (you may need to install Thunderbrowse, although behaviour also happens without thunderbrowse): http://www.wickham43.net/flashvideo.php If you scroll down to method 2, there is a Flash video where alternate content is provided. But in TB, you just see a black square with the right dimensions but not the alternate content (that would be a link to install a flash player).
peutch, do you still see this problem?
