User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.1) Gecko/20090715 Firefox/3.5.1 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.1) Gecko/20090715 Firefox/3.5.1 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
I recently updated to Firefox 3.5.1 (from 3.0.something) and immediately at startup the Xmarks-addon starts asking me my PIN (master password) in it's popup window, as it probably failed trying to connect to xmarks' server.
I reseted the password manually a few times, using their page for forgotten passwords. However, the original, over 10-digit PIN just wouldn't do, so I tried one without periods, colons and hyphens. This one worked immediately.
So I'm guessing that something in the password translation has changed between FF-versions and now all the not-so-common password marks, like periods, colons and hyphens don't translate the same.
Xmarks-addon uses a popup interface, in which the password is written and their homepage uses a normal type-in box.
Reproducible: Didn't try
Steps to Reproduce:
Just a guess, but here goes,
1.Install Xmarks
2.Create an account, making a password full of periods, hyphens and colons
3.Observe how it's impossible use the xmarks-addon, as it can't accept those marks in a password.
Actual Results:
I already had Xmarks installed through the Firefox update to 3.5.1, and the result was that it wouldn't accept the stored PIN code and tried to get it from me.
Expected Results:
The software(s) should have continued without a popup window, asking me to fill in the PIN code it already knew. Everything should have gone smooth, without a pasword problem.
All the currently installed addons: (Though only the last one seems relevant)
-Adblock Plus 1.1
-Greasemonkey 0.8.20090123.1
-Java Quick Starter 1.0
-Suomen kielen oikoluku 0.11.0
-XHTML Ruby Support 3.0.2009060901
-Xmarks 3.1.0

The same password also fails on their homepage ?
IS the same kind of password with the same kind of chars working on other pages like for example gmail ?

The complicated password didn't fail at their homepage in the first place and still doesn't. The problem seemed to have resided in the firefox plugin only. Awkwardly, now it seems that even the plugin works just fine. So I currently can't reproduce the "error" of having a wrong password and thus have to leave it as it is. Undeniably there was a weird "wrong password" error in the plugin right after the update, but some fiddling with passwords and a reboot later the problem persists no more. Did the reboot solve something? Maybe, it's Windows, after all.
I switched my gmail password to a more complex one (with mentioned chars) and it works just fine, but I doubt the error was in there. Btw, my Windows XP currently uses FI (Finnish) Keyboard charset, which however is quite close to Standard English ones, save hyphen.

is an extension issue if a normal website works.
Please report such extension issues to the author of the extension.
It's possible that the extension author fixed an error on his server that caused the error.
