Description

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.1) Gecko/20090717 Fedora/3.5.1-3.fc11 Firefox/3.5.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.1) Gecko/20090717 Fedora/3.5.1-3.fc11 Firefox/3.5.1

I have been using Firefox since version 1 and never experienced serious problems. When the right plugins were installed I could do anything I liked. Since version 3.5 I have problems with Firefox crashing every couple of hours. It does not depend on the website, nor on the number of tabs.
I have two Firefox windows open, each with a few tabs, and everytime after a couple of hours Firefox crashes.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start a Firefox window, open 2 or more browser tabs.
2. Open second window, open 2 or more browser tabs.
3. After a couple of hours (2 or more) Firefox crashes.
Actual Results:
Crash Firefox.

Expected Results:
No crash.

Open the tabs I instructed to open.

Firefox is trying to send the crash-data back to mozilla.org - did you allow the reports to be send ? If you do, can you report their ids ? You can find them back in about:crashes .

about:crashes doesn't work in my standard installation of Firefox on Fedora 11. I don't understand what else I could do to enable mozilla to send crash data.

Comment 5

Firefox builds from Linux distros lack the Mozilla Crash Reporter. The server doesn't have their debug symbols. You'll need to use a Mozilla build to generate a crash report to send to Mozilla's server.
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_for_a_bug_report
The Fedora info linked to from there is here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/StackTraces

You can either get a stack trace manually or install the official Mozilla build and use the crash reporter.

When I run Firefox from gdb I get the following warning whenever opening a new tab or window:

warning: .dynamic section for "/usr/lib/libssh2.so.1" is not at the expected address
warning: difference appears to be caused by prelink, adjusting expectations

The crash report is as follows:

Please upgrade your flash plugin.
And then try disabling it.

if the crash goes away, then flash caused it.

I already use the latest flash plugin (installed last week):

Adobe Flash Plugin 10.0.32.18 Fully Supported: Mozilla SeaMonkey 1.0+, Firefox 1.5+, Mozilla 1.7.13+

Then I disabled flash and so far I have had no crashes anymore. Working without flash is not really an option though.
Furthermore it seems strange that I use Flashblock to only show the flash content when I really want to see it, but whether it is enabled or disabled does not seem to make any difference in the number of and interval between crashes.

Should I (try to) report this bug to Adobe?
um, yes I guess so. Charles, got any ideas? I wanted to make sure you are getting this with firefox 3.5.2 official build from mozilla.com?

odd but the only thing I can think of right now is to get a list of common web sites Rob you are using? I run on Mac OSX in quite the same fashion with two windows at at least 12 or more tabs between the two of them. I can't remember the last time I crashed. If we can narrow down the possibilities we might be able to help here.

Thanks for all responses. I seem to have an extraordinary installation: although it is fairly standard, I kept keeping the problems indicated. With the latest build though I seem to have left this problem behind. This crash problem appears to have been solved therefore.
