1. Go to a website that has tool tips such as www.google.com 
2. Now place your pointer over the search box without clicking it. You get a tooltip displaying "Google Search". So far perfect; the screen did not blink when displaying the tooltip.
3. Now press F11 or manually go to Full Screen View and stay at www.google.com
4. Now place your pointer over the search box like you did in step 2.  PROBLEM; you get the tooltip displayed but your screen blinked while displaying the tool tip.

This bug ONLY occurs in the linux version. It does not occur in windows. I have confirmed it on several Debian based OSes such as Ubuntu (both x32 and x64)

Reproducible: Always



Expected Results:  
The screen must not blink when displaying the tool tip in Full Screen Mode.

Sounds like bug 493353 if you have compiz enabled. Please try https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/260776/comments/6 and report if that helps.

I don't even have compiz fusion installed.

I can't try the solution proposed because I don't want to get back compiz.

I just had this problem as well - and discovered the cause. I use Debian, KDE 4.3.1. Upon reading this bug report and seeing that compiz caused it, even though I don't use compiz I thought that maybe KDE's Compositing could be the culprit, and it is.

Disabling Compositing made the blinking go away. Enabling it again makes the screen flash black upon Firefox showing a tooltip while in fullscreen.

So there. I'm reporting this bug on KDE's BTS, under kwin/compositing.

Reporter, please retest with Firefox 3.6.12 or later in a fresh profile (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles). Also update your plugins (flash, adobe reader, java, quicktime, silverlight, etc.) Go to the developer's website and download the latest version from there. If you no longer see this issue, please close this bug as RESOLVED, WORKSFORME. If you do see the bug, please post a comment.
