We're at a point where we're ready to deploy this now, I think. The individual items are being tracked in the dependent bugs, here's the overall plan:
This page describes the rollout plan for OPSI on Talos Vista and XP machines.

Bugs still to file:
* staging-opsi.m.o/production-opsi.m.o CNAMEs
* Firewall changes for all win32 Talos machines
* DNS changes for Vista slaves

Once the DNS and firewall changes have been made we will schedule downtime for deployment. At least half a day will be needed to complete all of the work. At the very start of the downtime the OPSI server upgrade will be done, then we will move on and install OPSI on all of the slaves.

I don't think this bug needs to stay open. OPSI deployment on the talos machines is done; bug 517862 didn't block it, and is now tracking fixing the hanging problems we're seeing.
