Firefox can not cause whole system hangs. This could be some interaction between Firefox and your firewall, antivirus, etc. Please try creating a new firefox Profile, http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles, and see what happens.
Severity: critical → major
Version: unspecified → 3.5 Branch
After creating a profile the system doesn't hang. But Firefox takes a lot of memory and appears to be thrashing. I killed the firefox.exe process with Process Explorer (as the Windows task manager wasn't able to actually kill it). At that time after some minutes of processing the memory consumption was >500 MB. IE 7 loads the page in a few seconds with 200MB memory consumption.

This bug has had the CLOSEME tag for several weeks and the date in the tag is far gone. If the reporter can still see this issue, Please retest with Firefox 3.6.x or later and a new profile (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles). Then please remove the closeme tag in the whiteboard, mark the bug against the proper version and comment on the bug.
