crashing 50% of the time!! since loading newest version, and even after uninstalling and going back to older version

I am not a computer jock -- why would you expect me to be one? All I know is that I downloaded the newest version. It kept crashing. I uninstalled and reinstalled older version. STILL keeps crashing and HANGING and losing history.
