Build Identifier:

I imported the mail from my previous Eudora 7 install, and was not getting notifications on newly inserted messages which were filtered into the imported mailboxes.

It seems that as part of the import process, message summaries (.msf's?) were not created. They would create if I clicked into the mailbox (there was a fleeting mention in the status bar) -- and they were created globally when I did a search (the search function triggered their creation by scanning each box).

Once the mailboxes all had summaries notification worked as expected.

Reproducible: Always
Which version of Tb or build of Tb do you use?

AFAIR, when ".msf" doesn't exist, ".msf" file is automatically re-created by internal rebuild-index during restart of TB, if Tb 2 and latest nightly builds. If big mbox and if it takes long to complete internal rebuild-index, download of new mails by "check new mail at startup" perhaps silently fails. (Append of mail data to Inbox file is executed, but update of MailDB=.msf silently fails, then new mail is not properly detected.)
This case?

AFAIR, there is bug report for "no .msf by import" or for "creation of outdated .msf by import". But I couldn't recall bug number.

This is running TB 3b3.

But not apparently in b3.

My searches through Bugzilla didn't turn that up, but it's certainly possible I missed it (or it was beyond the 200 returned results).
Version: unspecified → 3.0
Sorry to spam the thread. I fat fingered the version, and then referred to my mistake later.

I'm running Beta 2.

I said "latest" builds. Some older builds had problem of "rebuild-index is not invoked during restart". Some old builds had problem of "rebuild-index is not invoked when outdated .msf condition". These are already resolved by current builds. When outdated .msf condition, internal rebuild-index is invoked upon mouse over on mail folder by current builds.

I could reach bug I saw in the past again.

Some one says "no .msf is created", but other one says "automaticaly execute rebuild index"...

See also Bug 368347, because you imported from Eudora.
See also Bug 315069, because you imported mails.
Michael, do you still see this issue?
Do you see your situation as matching anything in comment 5?
