As part of re-organizing the bookmarks documentation (http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?comments_parentId=396465&forumId=3) to better match what SUMO visitors search, we need to review a draft article on how to sort and order bookmarks.
Blocks: 512863
Blocks: 512864
In the draft we treat: * Sorting folders in the Bookmarks sidebar * Using (temporary) sorted views in the Library window * Dragging bookmarks to a custom position using the Bookmarks sidebar. We could also add sorting folders in the Library window, but I left it out to avoid the question of "why does clicking Views > Sort" not persist? We might also get the comment "It didn't sort my sub-folders!" Should we add that to the draft?
Is this ready for review?

Yes, marking FIXED. You think all platforms could share screenshots on this one?

- "This article describes how to sort your Firefox bookmarks. " just repeats the article title. Are there any other ways to sort than by name? Do sub-folders get sorted? These are good pieces of info for an intro. - if sorting in the Library window does not affect the bookmarks menu, that's not what users are visiting this article for, and we should not include it. - what's the most user-friendly method? (sidebar or right-click on folders in bookmarks menu) we should pick one. - we should only give instructions for menus. The keyboard shortcuts are listed in the menus. - syntax nitpick: 'sort by name' is a menu item, so it should use the menu tag, not bold. - for showfor on screenshots, the images do not match that of the Mac theme, so I would say no.

(1) Yeah, the intro was just a placeholder. I was kind of hoping someone else would jump in and write something elegant... Fixed now, maybe. (2) We need to document the two in the same place to show there's a difference. I've fielded the questions many times in the forum (Hey, my sorting worked in the Library window but didn't stick! What's the deal?!). We can have a separate Library window that talks about this too, but I strongly suggest we keep sorted views in this article - someone could be searching for "Why does sorting not work?" This tells them why it doesn't work and how to do it for real. (3) Sidebar is the way to go. You can't sort the main bookmarks menu from the itself. (4) For keyboard shortcuts, do you mean in the opening the sidebar thing? I can change it, but I put it in all the new bookmarks articles the same way. Axe it? (5) Whoops. (6) Yeah, good point.

Reviewed and moved to KB at: Tue 01 of Sep, 2009 03:10 EST Notes from review: - "move bookmarks into a custom order" sounds too techie too me. Changed it to "manually rearrange" - Renamed "Sorting the Bookmarks sidebar and Bookmarks menu" to "Sorting by name", to make it more understandable. - We can link to headings by using ((|#anchor name|text)), so we really don't need the ANAME tag. - I felt that the screenshots lacked context, so I redid them to include the navigation bar. - I removed the link to the Bookmarks folders article, until that article is approved.
