This appears below the line with the lock icon, the mail icon, the IRC Chat icon, etc. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Fire up Seamonkey on 64 bit Windows XP, look at any web site. Google will do. 2. Look at the bottom of the window. Actual Results: You will see a large amount of wasted real estate at the bottom of the window. Expected Results: No wasted space. This bug appears only in browser windows, not in the mail window.
This is caused by a faulty extension. Please read: <http://kb.mozillazine.org/Gray_bar_below_status_bar>

So far as I can tell this bug is *not* caused by a faulty extension. First, I have found that this bug appears when I am logged into my normal user account, which is a Limited Windows XP account, but not when I am logged in as Administrator on the same machine. In both cases the lists of plug-ins is the same (as determined via about:plugins): Mozilla Default Plug-in File name: npnul32.dll Default Plug-in MIME Type Description Suffixes * Mozilla Default Plug-in * Adobe Acrobat File name: nppdf32.dll Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape MIME Type Description Suffixes application/pdf Acrobat Portable Document Format pdf application/vnd.adobe.pdfxml Adobe PDF in XML Format pdfxml application/vnd.adobe.x-mars Adobe PDF in XML Format mars application/vnd.fdf Acrobat Forms Data Format fdf application/vnd.adobe.xfdf XML Version of Acrobat Forms Data Format xfdf application/vnd.adobe.xdp+xml Acrobat XML Data Package xdp application/vnd.adobe.xfd+xml Adobe FormFlow99 Data File xfd 2007 Microsoft Office system File name: NPOFF12.DLL Office Plugin for Netscape Navigator MIME Type Description Suffixes application/x-msoffice12 12.0.4518.1014 * Shockwave Flash File name: NPSWF32.dll Shockwave Flash 10.0 r32 MIME Type Description Suffixes application/x-shockwave-flash Adobe Flash movie swf application/futuresplash FutureSplash movie spl Windows Presentation Foundation File name: NPWPF.dll Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) plug-in for Mozilla browsers MIME Type Description Suffixes application/x-ms-xbap XAML Browser Application xbap application/xaml+xml XAML Document xaml As you can see these are all pretty much standard plug-ins for a Windows system and none are described on that list of bad plug-ins as causing the gray bar problem. The obvious question: How much testing is Seamonkey getting inside limited Windows XP accounts, given that most Windows users just run everything as Administrator? (I've found plenty of programs that have no good reason to be run with Administrative capabilities but croak anyway if you run them in a limited account.)
I didn't say anything about plugins. I specifically mentioned extensions (which are different from plugins). First try creating a new SeaMonkey profile using the SeaMonkey profile manager. Tools->Switch Profile->Manage Profiles->Create Profile. Then use the new profile. Do you still see this grey box at the bottom with this new profile?
Okay, I created a new profile. The bug does not appear in the new profile. That's the good news. The bad news is of course I have no access to my old mail. When I tried switching back to my original profile not only did the gray bar error reappear but another, worse error occurs. The top menu bar (with File, Edit, View, Go, Bookmarks, Tools, Window, and Help) is gone. Clicking the bitty arrows on the left doesn't bring it back. Not even the keyboard equivalents (like Cntl 2 for Mail) work. So mail and everything else is inaccessible. How would I even find out what extensions are in that old profile? And how do you remove them?
