see the attached URL for a description of how Chrome removed the dock bounce for a perceived startup performance win. i do not know if this is possible or desirable, but should be investigated at the very least.

1) This trick prevents the app from appearing in the Recent Apps menu of the dock. See comment #1 in the original article.

2) This will not be compatible with 64-bit Firefox on Snow Leopard since it uses a Carbon API and that's 32-bits.

3) Chromium guys are doing it for a reason, to work around some issue in WebKit. I think we would do better to improve actual performance than to hide it by not bouncing in the Dock. Imagine the furor when we are discovered!
I have not researched this as thoroughly as Joel but I suspect his analysis is right on.
