User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6; de-de) AppleWebKit/531.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.3 Safari/531.9
Build Identifier: Firefox 3.5.2/Windows XP SP3

My Father called me because his firefox „takes up to 15 Minutes to open after it has ben closed“. (so he told me)

After looking at the profile I’ve noticed that the places.sqlite used more than 400MB in his profile.

Opening Firefox 3.5.2 caused ~50MB RAM, and immediately closing it again made it use 100%CPU and 250MB RAM for a few minutes.

Creating a Backup & Restoring it again it went down to <500KB and firefox was fast again.

Firefox should prevent creating huge and performance killing sqllite Files.

Maybe doing a backup&restore automatically after x days (or if the file is >y MB? ) is a possibility.

Reproducible: Always
was he using google toolbar?
He had it installed, but i dont know for how long. (I’ve removed it, since there is no need for it with the google-box)

Does this effect places?
OK, I’ve googled a bit and saw the bug with the google toolbar.

Maybe firefox should disable this buggy plugin/extension? (blacklist this version)
maybe it should. Though, even disabling the extension the data won't get removed from the db.
I'm duping please report there any further consideration.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
