User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.13) Gecko/2009073022 Firefox/3.0.13 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.13) Gecko/2009073022 Firefox/3.0.13 Firefox gradually uses more and more memory as it stays open, even if only in one tab with nothing in particular happening. This does not change in the least with updates. This is a serious problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Firefox 2. Do absolutely nothing out of the ordinary 3. Suffer with ridiculous memory leaks as memory usage rises to 500,000K or more Actual Results: The memory usage of Firefox started out reasonably, around 80,000K, and gradually rose higher and higher until slowing down the entire computer with ridiculous memory demands for nothing different than what it was doing when initially opened. Expected Results: It should have stayed at a steady memory usage, using more when playing videos or loading large pages, and going back to normal when nothing strange was going on. Happens with every single version of firefox.

You should really upgrade to Firefox 3.5, a lot of work has been done in that area. And check all your add-ons (can be done in Tools->Add-Ons) and your plugins (can NOT be done in the browser). Especially Flash - please upgrade to the latest version available (10.0.32.18) !

I've already got 3.5 and this happens to myself and everyone I know even with no add-ons and absolutely everything updated. It's been a constant problem since firefox started. I'm trying to get them to focus on it and fix it, since it's pretty much the biggest problem the browser has. Everything else is great.

you would want to use https://wiki.mozilla.org/Performance:Leak_Tools to create a leak log with addons disabled, and newer firefox of course and please cite URLs used, and memory usage at date X, Y, ...
