"Hi, after the recent shredder update, it's messed up all my folders
and just jumbled everything into one big inbox"

I'm not sure what we should do about it, but we should do something; -)

a few alternatives:

1) detect those servers, and somehow exclude sub-folders of inbox in the 'smart folder inbox'.

2) detect those servers, and not switch to smart folder mode by default

3) any other ideas?

We're already doing 1). Sub-folders of the inbox show up under the account, not the inbox. So the question is why didn't that work for that user.
With a brand new profile, I added an imap server that has all folders under the inbox.

The result was that all folders other than inbox and trash ended up underneath the account level. The top-level inbox was a normal inbox.

Did this user have more than one account? I have multiple accounts and it works for me, but it would be helpful to know exactly what the user's setup is.

Yup, that's exactly what i got, i prefer it seperated. Heres a screenshot of what i got with smart folders switched on http://i29.tinypic.com/2427xo9.png
that screen shot doesn't show us putting all sub-folders of the inbox underneath the inbox (maybe if you expand the inbox smart folder, it might be clearer). For all I can tell, the inbox smart folder has the inboxes of each account underneath it, which is the design...
It's working as you intended (all my inboxes are sub folders of the main inbox). When i joined IRC and asked that question i was confused as everything was completely diffrent after an update, and i hadn't changed any settings.
Ok, sounds like this bug can be closed.
